Driving a car (subscription) in Switzerland – what you should know.
If you want to use Swiss motorways, you need a permit known as a motorway vignette. At Clyde this is included in your monthly payment and we send you the annual permit by post.
Yes, Switzerland has clear parking rules. They depend on the zone and the city:
- Blue zone: Disc required. Parking usually limited to one hour (weekdays). Often unrestricted and free of charge on Sundays and public holidays.
- White zone: Free or paid parking as indicated by the signs.
- Yellow markings: Private or reserved parking spaces – no parking.
- Blue markings at side of road: A parking disc is also required here.
- Car parks and public parking spaces: Often paid. Tariffs vary from city to city.
50 km/h in built-up areas, 80 km/h outside of built-up areas, 120 km/h on the motorway.
In principle, you can drive a friend’s car in Switzerland, provided you hold a valid driving licence. However, it’s important that the vehicle has the correct insurance – some policies do not cover additional drivers. At Clyde it’s easy: we allow multiple drivers.
Yes. Although you will need to exchange it for a Swiss driving licence within 12 months of your entry into Switzerland.
You must be at least 20 years old, reside in Switzerland, hold a valid category B driving licence and pass a credit check.
You are entitled to drive your Clyde car in Switzerland and in Liechtenstein, in the countries of Europe, in the countries bordering the Mediterranean and in Mediterranean island states. Please note that additional permits or emission stickers may be required in some countries. The car must be used predominantly in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.
The insurance cover does not apply in all countries. As a result, you must not drive your Clyde car in: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Russia, Syria or Ukraine.
Yes, provided the drivers hold a valid driving licence and meet the terms of use outlined in your subscription.
