What the
FAQ!
Clyde was founded in 2019. Since then, the international team has been working diligently to track down the best car models, put together the best pricing offers and organize everything in the background. For you, Switzerland and everyone that wants to stay mobile and flexible at the same time.
Out and about without any stress with this subscription. No desire for all the setup and organization linked to a car? Good, because Clyde has already taken care of all that. Registration, taxes and much more. And if the car needs to be brought in for inspection, Clyde will take care of that as well, of course. The only thing left for you is to click and off we go.
Clyde is more than just the most flexible electric car subscription in Switzerland. We’re the only electric car subscription that includes everything – even electricity at all public charging stations in our partner network; and now even private charging costs are credited. We are also the only provider that does not charge a starting fee and even delivers your electric car free of charge to anywhere in Switzerland.
It’s never been easier to have your own electric car to drive. The entire booking process is 100% digital. Clyde customers choose the electric car that suits them and select the desired minimum subscription period of between 3 and 48 months, as well as the monthly mileage package of between 250 km and 4,000 km.
Switching your car is very easy. Just send us an email to [email protected] with the following information:
- Link to the desired car
- Desired mileage package
- Desired minimum subscription duration
Our Customer Care will contact you for a changeover date. Return and handover will be on the same day.
At least 20 years old, residency in Switzerland oder Liechtenstein, valid driving licence (category B) and a successful credit check. If you fit these criteria, you’re a match. If not, your dream car has to stay with us for a little longer.
The right to drive extends to journeys in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, in the states of Europe and in the Mediterranean rim and island states. The insurance cover does not apply in the following countries and driving in these countries is therefore prohibited: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Russian Federation, Syria, Ukraine and Belarus.
The predominant place of use of the car must be in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.
However, unused kilometres cannot be transferred to another subscription or vehicle.
If you drive more than 4’000km per month on average, we will charge you - independent of the vehicle - a price per excess kilometre for all mileage beyond 4’000km per month.
After the minimum duration has been reached, the subscription continues to renew automatically for another month.
You plan to end your subscription? You can cancel your subscription online with 10 days’ notice, earliest possible end date at the end of your minimum subscription period.
You can also find cars that are not immediately available on Clyde.ch, e.g. cars that will be available in the coming months. You can book these as many days in advance as you like. However, the delivery of the car must take place in the month of availability indicated by us. For example, if you book a car in January that will be available from April, the car you book must be delivered to you in April. The minimum term you have chosen begins on the day the car is handed over to you
No surprises, no bullshit. That’s why you don’t have to pay a deposit.
Depending on the results of your credit check, however, it could be possible that we will need to agree on different payment terms. Of course, this will only happen after prior consultation with you.
Please note that the delivery time of your car can differ depending on the chosen payment method.
Your car will be filled up by us before it is delivered from our car storage depot to your home. In this case, it’s possible that your tank won’t be 100% full, when you receive the car.
Simply fair: you will need to refuel the car on your return, but in case of a home pickup, Clyde will cover the fuel costs for driving your car back from your home to our car storage depot.
Please do not forget to return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel, undamaged, cleaned (car 1x through the car wash & vacuuming), roadworthy, in accordance with its age and mileage, with all keys and associated components and documents.
Alternatively, you can choose to pick up your car at one of the following locations:
- AMAG Kreuzlingen, Kreuzlingen
- AMAG Autowelt, Dübendorf
- AMAG Zug, Cham
- AMAG Bern, Bern
- AMAG, Lausanne, Lausanne
- AMAG Petit-Lancy, Petit-Lancy
- Pargger AG, Stans
*Except for Clyde Deal, where vehicles may be delivered with a minimally different configuration.
If you charge your electric car at one of the countless public charging stations in our partner charging network in Switzerland and throughout Europe, electricity is included in your monthly subscription rate. Private charging is credited in the form of vouchers that you can put towards your next monthly payment.
This is an unparalleled way of doing things. It’s only available at Clyde!
If you booked an electric car with us as an existing customer before May 26, 2023, you can only benefit from the Clyde Energy Benefit if you order another new car from Clyde.
If you’d like to take advantage of our “electricity included” subscription benefit as an existing customer without ordering a new car, please contact us at hello@clyde or by phone on +41 44 315 40 55. Our team will be happy to discuss the details with you.
How it works:
Step 1:
We calculate your private electricity consumption at the end of each month: Mileage package x average vehicle consumption per kilometre – electricity consumption from public charging = electricity consumption from private charging.
Step 2:
We’ll offset your electricity consumption from private charging with a credit of CHF 0.30/kWh in the form of vouchers.
Step 3:
You can put these vouchers towards your next monthly payment. You can keep track of the amount remaining on your vouchers at any time by heading to Clyde Energy Benefit in MyClyde .
Mileage package x average vehicle consumption per kilometre – electricity consumption from public charging = electricity consumption from private charging.
We use the calculated value as the basis for your vouchers.
- Booked mileage package: 1,000 km/month
- Average consumption of the electric car: 20 kWh/100 km
- Estimated electricity consumption per month: (1,000/100) * 20 = 200 kWh
- Electricity consumption from public charging: 50 kWh
Voucher amount: (200 kWh – 50 kWh) * CHF 0.30/kWh = CHF 45
Mileage package x average vehicle consumption per kilometre – electricity consumption from public charging = electricity consumption from private charging
So if you charge your vehicle a lot at public charging stations, you may not be issued a voucher for private charging.
Don’t worry: Clyde is home to not only enthusiastic electric car experts, but also real mathematical wizards. You can have complete trust in our calculations.
You can find out more about this now on our blog!
All of your active subscriptions will be taken into account when calculating the vouchers that we credit to you for private charging.
For example, if you have a subscription for two electric cars, the calculation could be as follows:
Our calculation of the expected electricity consumption:
- Subscription 1: 1,000 km mileage package and 20 kWh/100 km average consumption of the electric car → (1,000/100)*20 = 200 kWh
- Subscription 2: 250 km mileage package and 15 kWh/100 km average consumption of the electric car → (250/100)*15 = 37.5 kWh
In this case, we assume that the expected electricity consumption for both electric cars is 237.5 kWh.
Your charging behaviour during the calendar month:
- Electricity consumption from public charging for subscriptions 1 and 2 = 220 kWh
How we calculate your voucher:
- Voucher amount for subscriptions 1 and 2 = (237.5 kWh – 220 kWh) * CHF 0.30/kWh = CHF 5
- Subscription 1: 200 kWh/237.5 kWh = 84% → voucher = CHF 4
- Subscription 2: 37.5 kWh/237.5 kWh = 16% → voucher = CHF 1
You will therefore be credited in the form of a voucher for the total amount of CHF 5 for both electric cars in the corresponding calendar month.
As an existing customer, you can also benefit from ordering a new electric car from Clyde.
If you wish to charge your car at a public charging station that is not part of the swisscharge.ch network, be aware that this is not covered by your monthly payment, so you will have to pay for it separately.
For all Tesla drivers: If you charge your Tesla at a public swisscharge.ch charging station, we will of course cover the costs, too. Obviously, you can also charge it via the Tesla app at all Tesla Supercharger stations. Please note, however, that you will need to pay these costs separately.
If you choose a plug-in hybrid car, you can decide for yourself which Swiss charging network provider you want to use. As soon as you register with your favourite provider via the app, your charging will simply be billed via your credit card.
PS Have you heard about our new Clyde Energy Benefit ? It doesn't just include public charging within our partner network. You can now have even your private charging costs credited in the form of vouchers.
Our absolute highlight is our unique Clyde Energy Benefit. Clyde is the only provider to include the costs for electricity at both public charging stations and private wallboxes:
Public charging:
If you charge your electric car at one of the countless public charging stations in our partner charging network, the charging costs are already covered by your monthly payment.
Private charging:
If you charge privately, for example at home on your private wallbox or at work, your charging costs will be credited to you in the form of vouchers.
The Clyde Energy Benefit does not, however, include the following:
- Charging at public charging stations that are not part of the swisscharge.ch network
- Charging at public charging stations that was not initiated by entering the login credentials provided or via the free swisscharge.ch charging card
- Charging via the Tesla app at a public Tesla Supercharger charging station You will need to pay these costs separately.
For public charging, the Clyde Energy Benefit is designed to cover your average electricity requirements based on your car and mileage package. Say you have a holiday coming up in the next month and you’ll be on the road a little more than usual: that’s not a problem at all. If, however, we have reason to believe that you’re ignoring our General Terms and Conditions by consuming an unusual amount of electricity, we reserve the right to pass on the costs incurred for wrongful usage to you and to charge a service fee on top.
Public charging:
If you charge your electric car with your personal charging card at one of the countless public charging stations in our partner charging network in Switzerland and throughout Europe, the charging costs are already covered by your monthly payment. The bill for your charging goes directly to Clyde. You will receive your personal charging card by post at no additional cost. You will not be charged an order fee, a membership fee or an annual fee.
Private charging:
If you charge your vehicle privately, such as at home or at work, or drive economically or less than your booked mileage, we’ll offset this electricity consumption with a credit note of CHF 0.30/kWh in the form of vouchers that you can put towards your next monthly payment.
How it works:
Step 1:
At the start of each calendar month, we calculate your private electricity consumption for the previous month: Mileage package x average vehicle consumption per kilometre – electricity consumption from public charging = electricity consumption from private charging.
Step 2:
We’ll offset your electricity consumption from private charging with a credit of CHF 0.30/kWh in the form of vouchers.
Step 3:
You can put your vouchers towards your next monthly payment. You can keep track of the amount remaining on your vouchers at any time by heading to Clyde Energy Benefit in MyClyde.
Are you a homeowner with a photovoltaic system installed on your roof? If so, you have two things to look forward to: If you charge your electric car using your own system, we’ll give you around twice the usual tariff (based on the median electricity price in Switzerland).
Parking Damage:
Extends the insurance coverage to damage caused by unknown persons to the parked vehicle. Two (2) cases are included per calendar year. The deductible for corresponding damage is CHF 0 and the sum insured is unlimited.
Extended glass coverage:
In the partially comprehensive insurance the glass breakage of the front, rear and side windows as well as the glass roof is insured as standard. Extended coverage additionally insures all vehicle parts made of glass, Plexiglas or similar hard materials (e.g. headlights, auxiliary headlights, fog lights, turn signal lenses, reflectors, reversing lamps, rearview mirrors and license plate lighting). The deductible for corresponding damage is CHF 0.
Partial comprehensive cover basically covers damage to your car for which you are not responsible (not caused intentionally). This includes damage caused by fire, natural hazards, animal collisions, vandalism, theft and simple glass damages. The deductible for private customers and pool cars is CHF 0.
For private customers, the standard deductible for the fully comprehensive insurance (collision) is CHF 1,500 and can be reduced to CHF 1,000 or CHF 500 on request for an additional fee in the booking process. The deductible of the fully comprehensive cover covers damage to your own car caused by classic collision events (e.g. collision with another car, collision with a pillar, etc.). The deductible is always calculated per damage.
If damage is caused to another car, a person or an object in the event of a collision, this is covered by the liability insurance. For private customers, the deductible of the liability insurance is CHF 0.
The deductible for pool vehicles is CHF 1'000 for liability insurance and CHF 1'500 for fully comprehensive insurance (collision). In this case reducing the deductible is not possible.
For a monthly surcharge, you can choose the Insurance Plus option, which covers you additionally for glass and parking damage.
But bear in mind: depending on the weather, an early switch from summer to winter tyres might be in order. Most manufacturers recommend making the switch when the temperature dips below 7 degrees Celsius.
