What the
FAQ!

From Züri with Love.

Clyde was founded in 2019. Since then, the international team has been working diligently to track down the best car models, put together the best pricing offers and organize everything in the background. For you, Switzerland and everyone that wants to stay mobile and flexible at the same time.

Out and about without any stress with this subscription. No desire for all the setup and organization linked to a car? Good, because Clyde has already taken care of all that. Registration, taxes and much more. And if the car needs to be brought in for inspection, Clyde will take care of that as well, of course. The only thing left for you is to click and off we go.

Our promise is "Your car in Easy", so you have no registration fee and zero risk just to try it out. It couldn't be more convenient, because we deliver your car to any address in Switzerland free of charge within 10 working days of receipt of payment for the first monthly subscription rate (valid for cars immediately available from stock). And now have a look at our fine selection of city cars, cool station wagons and great electric models.

Clyde is more than just the most flexible electric car subscription in Switzerland. We’re the only electric car subscription that includes everything – even electricity at all public charging stations in our partner network; and now even private charging costs are credited. We are also the only provider that does not charge a starting fee and even delivers your electric car free of charge to anywhere in Switzerland.

It’s never been easier to have your own electric car to drive. The entire booking process is 100% digital. Clyde customers choose the electric car that suits them and select the desired minimum subscription period of between 3 and 48 months, as well as the monthly mileage package of between 250 km and 4,000 km.

Yes, you can do that anytime. The change will be effective as of your next subscription month. Send us an email with your preferred new mininum subscription duration to [email protected]. You drive. You save. Clyde does the rest. Easy, isn’t it?

Switching your car is very easy. Just send us an email to [email protected] with the following information:

  1. Link to the desired car
  2. Desired mileage package
  3. Desired minimum subscription duration

Our Customer Care will contact you for a changeover date. Return and handover will be on the same day.

Back to New? Switching your car within the minimum subscription duration is unfortunately not possible. After your minimum subscription duration has expired, you can easily switch cars.
Sure! As long as you already have an official registration document and a valid driver's license, we can redeem the vehicle for you. Please note that in some cases we need a written proof of your registration for the traffic office.
Easy: with Clyde you can let your favorite people drive your car.

At least 20 years old, residency in Switzerland oder Liechtenstein, valid driving licence (category B) and a successful credit check. If you fit these criteria, you’re a match. If not, your dream car has to stay with us for a little longer.

The right to drive extends to journeys in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, in the states of Europe and in the Mediterranean rim and island states. The insurance cover does not apply in the following countries and driving in these countries is therefore prohibited: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Russian Federation, Syria, Ukraine and Belarus.

The predominant place of use of the car must be in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.

With us, your car is not only available in easy, but also in fast. After receipt of your first monthly payment, we will provide you with your car within 10 working days (valid for cars immediately available from stock). The exact delivery conditions will be shown to you when you make your booking.
Absolutely! During your subscription, any kilometres you don’t use are carried over to the following month.

However, unused kilometres cannot be transferred to another subscription or vehicle.
No problem! After you have returned the car, we’ll send you a separate invoice. Depending on how many kilometres you have driven, we’ll retrospectively charge you the next larger and appropriate mileage package that covers your excess mileage. Simply fair.

If you drive more than 4’000km per month on average, we will charge you - independent of the vehicle - a price per excess kilometre for all mileage beyond 4’000km per month.

After the minimum duration has been reached, the subscription continues to renew automatically for another month.

You plan to end your subscription? You can cancel your subscription online with 10 days’ notice, earliest possible end date at the end of your minimum subscription period.

In principle, we want to make life as easy as possible for you. However, we do reserve the right to change your car for an equivalent one after 24 months or 40,000 km. Should this be the case, we will inform you two months in advance.
Cars available immediately from stock can be booked up to 6 months in advance at the earliest.

You can also find cars that are not immediately available on Clyde.ch, e.g. cars that will be available in the coming months. You can book these as many days in advance as you like. However, the delivery of the car must take place in the month of availability indicated by us. For example, if you book a car in January that will be available from April, the car you book must be delivered to you in April. The minimum term you have chosen begins on the day the car is handed over to you

No surprises, no bullshit. That’s why you don’t have to pay a deposit.

Depending on the results of your credit check, however, it could be possible that we will need to agree on different payment terms. Of course, this will only happen after prior consultation with you.

We are open for business! You can pay by credit card or by invoice.

Please note that the delivery time of your car can differ depending on the chosen payment method.
Currently you can pay with credit and debit cards from Mastercard and Visa. Unfortunately, other providers are not yet available.
Yes, the car must be picked up personally by whoever has made the booking - in case of a pool vehicle by the most frequent driver. Please bring your valid driving license for identification purposes.
Clyde means flexible and easy. And that’s why we deliver your car directly to the door of your desired address within Switzerland and Liechtenstein. For free, of course. Please have your driving license ready for identification purposes.

Your car will be filled up by us before it is delivered from our car storage depot to your home. In this case, it’s possible that your tank won’t be 100% full, when you receive the car.

Simply fair: you will need to refuel the car on your return, but in case of a home pickup, Clyde will cover the fuel costs for driving your car back from your home to our car storage depot.
When you return the vehicle, we will collect it directly from your home.

Please do not forget to return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel, undamaged, cleaned (car 1x through the car wash & vacuuming), roadworthy, in accordance with its age and mileage, with all keys and associated components and documents.
It couldn’t be easier: your car will be delivered to your door and picked up there as well. Without surcharge of course.

Alternatively, you can choose to pick up your car at one of the following locations:
  • AMAG Kreuzlingen, Kreuzlingen
  • AMAG Autowelt, Dübendorf
  • AMAG Zug, Cham
  • AMAG Bern, Bern
  • AMAG, Lausanne, Lausanne
  • AMAG Petit-Lancy, Petit-Lancy
  • Pargger AG, Stans
Only very discreet. You will find our logo on the license plate holder and a small sticker on the back of the car. Since it should feel like your personal car, you have the possibility to remove this branding at any time. If you see a car on the street with a slightly bigger Clyde sticker, give us a waves! These are our Clyde Team cars.
You get what you see – we promise. That means the exact electric car that you’ve seen and chosen on the website*.

*Except for Clyde Deal, where vehicles may be delivered with a minimally different configuration.
Fit and healthy. Our offer consists of vehicles as good as new. Most of our cars are even less than one year old and have less than 20'000 km. The maximum age is normally 24 months, the maximum mileage 30'000 km. Due to the current delivery problems, we currently also have vehicles with a maximum age of 36 months and a maximum mileage of up to 36'000 km.
Your electric car fits in completely with your lifestyle – and that includes where you live. So, you will get a license plate from your canton of residence.
Thanks to our unique Clyde Energy Benefit, electricity is included both at public charging stations and at home or at work:

If you charge your electric car at one of the countless public charging stations in our partner charging network in Switzerland and throughout Europe, electricity is included in your monthly subscription rate. Private charging is credited in the form of vouchers that you can put towards your next monthly payment.

This is an unparalleled way of doing things. It’s only available at Clyde!
Have you booked an electric car after May 26, 2023? If so, you’re automatically included and can take advantage of the many benefits that the Clyde Energy Benefit has to offer.

If you booked an electric car with us as an existing customer before May 26, 2023, you can only benefit from the Clyde Energy Benefit if you order another new car from Clyde.

If you’d like to take advantage of our “electricity included” subscription benefit as an existing customer without ordering a new car, please contact us at hello@clyde or by phone on +41 44 315 40 55. Our team will be happy to discuss the details with you.
Your vouchers are valid for six months from their date of issue. You can check the expiry date at any time in MyClyde .
If you charge your vehicle privately, such as at home or at work, or drive economically or less than your booked mileage, we’ll offset this electricity consumption with a credit note of CHF 0.30/kWh in the form of vouchers that you can put towards your next monthly payment.

How it works:

Step 1:
We calculate your private electricity consumption at the end of each month: Mileage package x average vehicle consumption per kilometre – electricity consumption from public charging = electricity consumption from private charging.

Step 2:
We’ll offset your electricity consumption from private charging with a credit of CHF 0.30/kWh in the form of vouchers.

Step 3:
You can put these vouchers towards your next monthly payment. You can keep track of the amount remaining on your vouchers at any time by heading to Clyde Energy Benefit in MyClyde .
How we calculate your private electricity consumption:

Mileage package x average vehicle consumption per kilometre – electricity consumption from public charging = electricity consumption from private charging.

We use the calculated value as the basis for your vouchers.
Of course! You can redeem as many vouchers as you like – but only until your maximum monthly subscription rate has been reached. If your redeemed vouchers exceed your monthly subscription rate, the vouchers will be redeemed against your next monthly payment.
Unlike the monthly payment calculation, it is the calendar month and not the subscription month that is taken into account when calculating the voucher credit. This means that at the end of each calendar month, we calculate whether or not any credit is available.
You can keep track of the amount remaining on your vouchers at any time by heading to Clyde Energy Benefit in MyClyde .
If your charging behaviour is rewarded, you will receive your vouchers for the previous calendar month at the beginning of each calendar month.
You can redeem your vouchers in MyClyde at any time. The redeemed vouchers will be automatically deducted from your next monthly payment.
With Clyde, electricity is included – and that applies to all electric car subscribers from May 26, 2023. Of course, you can also benefit from the Clyde Energy Benefit without a home charging solution. If you charge your electric car at one of the countless public charging stations in our partner charging network in Switzerland or throughout Europe, electricity is included in your monthly payment. The bill is sent automatically to Clyde.
This calculation example illustrates how much you could save:
  • Booked mileage package: 1,000 km/month
  • Average consumption of the electric car: 20 kWh/100 km
  • Estimated electricity consumption per month: (1,000/100) * 20 = 200 kWh
  • Electricity consumption from public charging: 50 kWh

Voucher amount: (200 kWh – 50 kWh) * CHF 0.30/kWh = CHF 45
We calculate your private electricity consumption as follows:

Mileage package x average vehicle consumption per kilometre – electricity consumption from public charging = electricity consumption from private charging

So if you charge your vehicle a lot at public charging stations, you may not be issued a voucher for private charging.
We round according to mathematical rules, and only use whole numbers without decimal places. Due to mathematical rounding, the minimum voucher amount eligible for credit is CHF 1.

Don’t worry: Clyde is home to not only enthusiastic electric car experts, but also real mathematical wizards. You can have complete trust in our calculations.
The future of our mobility is electric. Electric cars can make a significant contribution to a better energy footprint. However, they’re only truly environmentally friendly if they’re powered by electricity from sustainable sources. That’s why Clyde is investing in solar projects from the Swiss start-up Solarify . This partnership enables Clyde to drive forward clean electricity production while closing the produce – charge – drive energy cycle for you at the same time.

You can find out more about this now on our blog!
The vouchers are calculated on a pro rata basis, based on the number of days a subscription was active in the calendar month or the number of days that a mileage package was valid in the month in question. We use the number of days in a calendar month as a basis, i.e. 31 days in May, 30 days in June, etc.
If you have subscribed to several electric cars with Clyde, your subscriptions will be combined under a single swisscharge account for your public charging.

All of your active subscriptions will be taken into account when calculating the vouchers that we credit to you for private charging.

For example, if you have a subscription for two electric cars, the calculation could be as follows:

Our calculation of the expected electricity consumption:
  • Subscription 1: 1,000 km mileage package and 20 kWh/100 km average consumption of the electric car → (1,000/100)*20 = 200 kWh
  • Subscription 2: 250 km mileage package and 15 kWh/100 km average consumption of the electric car → (250/100)*15 = 37.5 kWh

In this case, we assume that the expected electricity consumption for both electric cars is 237.5 kWh.

Your charging behaviour during the calendar month:
  • Electricity consumption from public charging for subscriptions 1 and 2 = 220 kWh

How we calculate your voucher:
  • Voucher amount for subscriptions 1 and 2 = (237.5 kWh – 220 kWh) * CHF 0.30/kWh = CHF 5

  • Subscription 1: 200 kWh/237.5 kWh = 84% → voucher = CHF 4
  • Subscription 2: 37.5 kWh/237.5 kWh = 16% → voucher = CHF 1

You will therefore be credited in the form of a voucher for the total amount of CHF 5 for both electric cars in the corresponding calendar month.
The swisscharge.ch network contains more than 130,000 charging stations around Europe, of which around 6,500 are located in Switzerland. An overview is provided in the swisscharge.ch app.
swisscharge.ch makes life easier for e-drivers. As a provider of innovative infrastructure solutions and services, swisscharge.ch puts the intelligence into charging station operations while taking the hassle out. You can charge your car at around 130,000 charging stations throughout Europe thanks to the Clyde x swisscharge charging card and the swisscharge.ch app. There is no subscription or basic fee, so you benefit from maximum price transparency and convenience when charging your vehicle. Ready to continue the journey? Visit swisscharge.ch for more details.
Our partner swisscharge.ch will email you your personal login credentials just before you take receipt of your electric car from Clyde. All you need to do to activate these credentials is to set a personal password. You will be sent your Clyde x swisscharge charging card a short while later by post. It will be sent to the address stored in our records. Your charging card is already linked to your account, so you don’t have to do anything there.
Public and private charging included – that’s the idea behind our Clyde Energy Benefit, which can now be enjoyed by all new customers who subscribe to an all-electric car with Clyde. ‘All-electric’ describes all cars that are powered by batteries alone.

As an existing customer, you can also benefit from ordering a new electric car from Clyde.
As the Clyde Energy Benefit is a new subscription benefit that has never been available in the car subscription market before, there's a lot that we’re still learning. We therefore reserve the right to discontinue this benefit at any time in accordance with the General Terms and Conditions. As a result, we may terminate the Clyde subscription at any time with a notice period of one month. But don’t worry: We are committed to the Clyde Energy Benefit and will contact you in good time to discuss a suitable alternative if necessary.
If you use your Clyde x swisscharge charging card or your account in the swisscharge.ch app when charging your car at a public charging station, the costs are already covered by your subscription. How about bills? We’ll take care of them. Please note, however, that it's essential that you use your swisscharge.ch login credentials. You cannot use a different account or a private account for this. If you do so, we won't be able to transfer these charging costs to your regular account or reimburse you for them.

If you wish to charge your car at a public charging station that is not part of the swisscharge.ch network, be aware that this is not covered by your monthly payment, so you will have to pay for it separately.

For all Tesla drivers: If you charge your Tesla at a public swisscharge.ch charging station, we will of course cover the costs, too. Obviously, you can also charge it via the Tesla app at all Tesla Supercharger stations. Please note, however, that you will need to pay these costs separately.

If you choose a plug-in hybrid car, you can decide for yourself which Swiss charging network provider you want to use. As soon as you register with your favourite provider via the app, your charging will simply be billed via your credit card.

PS Have you heard about our new Clyde Energy Benefit ? It doesn't just include public charging within our partner network. You can now have even your private charging costs credited in the form of vouchers.
Oh yes, and we’re very proud of that!

Our absolute highlight is our unique Clyde Energy Benefit. Clyde is the only provider to include the costs for electricity at both public charging stations and private wallboxes:

Public charging:
If you charge your electric car at one of the countless public charging stations in our partner charging network, the charging costs are already covered by your monthly payment.

Private charging:
If you charge privately, for example at home on your private wallbox or at work, your charging costs will be credited to you in the form of vouchers.
When you choose an electric car with Clyde, electricity is included at all public charging stations in the swisscharge.ch network in Switzerland and throughout Europe thanks to the Clyde Energy Benefit. The charging costs are already included in your monthly subscription rate. If you charge your Tesla at a public swisscharge.ch charging station, we will of course cover the costs, too.

The Clyde Energy Benefit does not, however, include the following:
  • Charging at public charging stations that are not part of the swisscharge.ch network
  • Charging at public charging stations that was not initiated by entering the login credentials provided or via the free swisscharge.ch charging card
  • Charging via the Tesla app at a public Tesla Supercharger charging station You will need to pay these costs separately.
Our Clyde Energy Benefit provides the following promise: Electricity is included at all public charging stations within our partner charging network. If you charge your vehicle privately or drive economically, your charging costs will be credited to you in the form of vouchers.

For public charging, the Clyde Energy Benefit is designed to cover your average electricity requirements based on your car and mileage package. Say you have a holiday coming up in the next month and you’ll be on the road a little more than usual: that’s not a problem at all. If, however, we have reason to believe that you’re ignoring our General Terms and Conditions by consuming an unusual amount of electricity, we reserve the right to pass on the costs incurred for wrongful usage to you and to charge a service fee on top.
Thanks to our unique Clyde Energy Benefit, electricity is included both at public charging stations and at home or at work. This applies to all new customers who subscribe to an electric car with Clyde, or existing customers who place a new electric car order with Clyde.

Public charging:
If you charge your electric car with your personal charging card at one of the countless public charging stations in our partner charging network in Switzerland and throughout Europe, the charging costs are already covered by your monthly payment. The bill for your charging goes directly to Clyde. You will receive your personal charging card by post at no additional cost. You will not be charged an order fee, a membership fee or an annual fee.

Private charging:
If you charge your vehicle privately, such as at home or at work, or drive economically or less than your booked mileage, we’ll offset this electricity consumption with a credit note of CHF 0.30/kWh in the form of vouchers that you can put towards your next monthly payment.

How it works:

Step 1:
At the start of each calendar month, we calculate your private electricity consumption for the previous month: Mileage package x average vehicle consumption per kilometre – electricity consumption from public charging = electricity consumption from private charging.

Step 2:
We’ll offset your electricity consumption from private charging with a credit of CHF 0.30/kWh in the form of vouchers.

Step 3:
You can put your vouchers towards your next monthly payment. You can keep track of the amount remaining on your vouchers at any time by heading to Clyde Energy Benefit in MyClyde.

Are you a homeowner with a photovoltaic system installed on your roof? If so, you have two things to look forward to: If you charge your electric car using your own system, we’ll give you around twice the usual tariff (based on the median electricity price in Switzerland).
As the features and costs associated with home charging solutions depend greatly on the product and conditions at that specific location, we always recommend seeking expert advice. Many electricians will be able to answer your installation questions. Alternatively, you can get in touch with our partner Helion. You can check the costs involved for a home charging solution here at no obligation.
The package includes the following aspects:

Parking Damage:
Extends the insurance coverage to damage caused by unknown persons to the parked vehicle. Two (2) cases are included per calendar year. The deductible for corresponding damage is CHF 0 and the sum insured is unlimited.

Extended glass coverage:
In the partially comprehensive insurance the glass breakage of the front, rear and side windows as well as the glass roof is insured as standard. Extended coverage additionally insures all vehicle parts made of glass, Plexiglas or similar hard materials (e.g. headlights, auxiliary headlights, fog lights, turn signal lenses, reflectors, reversing lamps, rearview mirrors and license plate lighting). The deductible for corresponding damage is CHF 0.
Safe, safe, really safe. Besides the third-party liability insurance there’s a partial and fully comprehensive cover.

Partial comprehensive cover basically covers damage to your car for which you are not responsible (not caused intentionally). This includes damage caused by fire, natural hazards, animal collisions, vandalism, theft and simple glass damages. The deductible for private customers and pool cars is CHF 0.

For private customers, the standard deductible for the fully comprehensive insurance (collision) is CHF 1,500 and can be reduced to CHF 1,000 or CHF 500 on request for an additional fee in the booking process. The deductible of the fully comprehensive cover covers damage to your own car caused by classic collision events (e.g. collision with another car, collision with a pillar, etc.). The deductible is always calculated per damage.

If damage is caused to another car, a person or an object in the event of a collision, this is covered by the liability insurance. For private customers, the deductible of the liability insurance is CHF 0.

The deductible for pool vehicles is CHF 1'000 for liability insurance and CHF 1'500 for fully comprehensive insurance (collision). In this case reducing the deductible is not possible.

For a monthly surcharge, you can choose the Insurance Plus option, which covers you additionally for glass and parking damage.
As a general rule, you should use winter tyres from October to Easter. And from Easter to October, you’re best off using summer tyres.

But bear in mind: depending on the weather, an early switch from summer to winter tyres might be in order. Most manufacturers recommend making the switch when the temperature dips below 7 degrees Celsius.
If your car is delivered between 1 April and 31 August, it will be equipped with summer tyres. If it’s delivered between 1 September and 31 March, you’ll get your Clyde with winter tyres. When it comes time for a tyre change, you can arrange an appointment with one of the following Clyde tyre partners . The removed tyres will be stored for you. More information can be found here.
